LTL vs. parcel shipping

Parcel usually wins when the shipment is small, boxed, and easy to move through a package network. LTL becomes the better fit when weight, palletization, bulk, or special handling starts to push the shipment beyond normal package rules.

Parcel usually makes sense when

The shipment is boxed, relatively light, and does not require freight-class decisions, liftgate planning, or dock coordination.

LTL usually makes sense when

The shipment is palletized, bulky, unusually heavy, or needs freight-style accessorials such as liftgate or residential handling.

Why this matters before rate shopping

Choosing the wrong mode creates bad comparisons. Parcel and LTL rate logic are not interchangeable, so getting the mode right first saves time and keeps the quote results more useful.
